After a dark, long, and very wet winter, spring arrives. A season of birds, bees and flowers – all signifying renewal and rebirth. Each Season cycles through the year bringing with it the seeds of change and growth. The heat of summer, the chill of autumn, the dark days of winter – spring would not be possible without them. And so I celebrate the four seasons – Summer Fall Winter Spring – in these prints.
Funny the things that inspire work. This series of prints grew out of the unexpected intersection of several of my interests. I collect photographs of flowers and have a long standing love of botanical drawings and paintings. Birds and bees find their way into my work from time to time as well. But the inspiration for these images came while watching the movie REDS 2. In the background in one scene was a huge painting of flowers on what appeared to be blue moire fabric. That got me thinking about replicating the wavy look of moire in prints of flowers and birds. The final prints only hint at the fabric but the light touch of inspiration is there.
